OVERVIEW:
Blind Sports NSW is the peak body for all blind and vision impaired sport/active recreation in NSW. We cater to over 10,000 potential people who view our monthly newsletter through our extensive partnerships with Vision Australia, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, RIDBC, Disability Sports Network, Ability Links and Settlement Services Australia. These programs are now supported through NDIA funding to build stronger capacity within NSW Schools.
As we run more programs it is vital to ensure the sustainable aspect of working within schools and to students with vision impairments and blindness through the ISTV network. Currently we run the following sports in NSW in conjunction with these affiliate partners.
Athletics/Little Athletics Basketball Goalball
Lawn Bowls Cricket Futsal/Soccer
Swimming Triathlon Tandem Cycling
Shooting Touch Football AFL
Netball Ten Pin Bowling Judo
Sailing Winter Sports Surfing
Golf T-Ball/Softball Adventure Sports
Through these sports we run competitions, multi sport come and try events in addition to school and senior events in the community and in partnership with local councils. Through these efforts, Blind Sports NSW is the most progressive state across blind sport in Australia for engagement with students with vision impairments and blindness thanks to the ISTV network.
