Programs
Goalball for Schools
Goalball is an inclusive Paralympic Sport and has been played across primary and high schools for 12 years in NSW. This year we would like to invite all main stream schools to play this unique sport and experience what it is like to compete without your vision. NSW Goalball for Schools has been nominated as a finalist for event of the year in the Sport NSW 2017 Community Sports Awards. This program is also endorsed through Department of Education and Office of Sport in NSW. For more information on the Goalball for Schools program, please visit our Events Calendar.
Coaching
There are many pathways to enter coaching, each sport has their own program for coaches however Blind Sports NSW are working with Sport NSW to develop a more complete pathway to attracting coaches and assistant coaches for both Sydney Metro and Regional NSW. Regional coaches and coordinators will work in proposed HUB models which are supported by community and key partners to those HUBS. For example, PCYC Clubs and local council. If you wish to be a coach the best starting point is to log onto www.ausport.gov.au you will need to log onto the learning portal and select your course of choice to get started. You can also contact Blind Sports NSW directly to express your interest in getting started. Call Murray Elbourn on 0427186734 or email Murray at blindsportsnsw@gmail.com
Officials
What is sport without its officials, you are the life line of sport. Blind Sports NSW wants to offer courses to potential officials and assist in paying for them. In the coming months Blind Sports NSW would like to receive your expressions of interest to start out on the road to becoming a local, state, national or even international official in one of our sports. Blind Sports NSW work with great sporting partners including Sport NSW, Australian College of Physical Education and State Sporting Organisations who are always in need for new officials for all sports. Some benefits are:
- Paid Trips to officiate in competitions
- Payment assistance with uniforms and course
- Pathway to international or Paralympic officiating
- Community and club friendship and social networks
Volunteering
As a volunteer, you are vital to sport in the inclusion space and should be valued and appreciated for all you do. If you are working with Blind Sport NSW we take this view every time you say yes to helping out. It could be filling in for an official, making lunches or setting up a field or court. At Blind Sports NSW we believe we can never have enough volunteers so we are working hard to show our appreciation relating to your help. We want to hear your feedback on how we can provide the best possible environment to make your volunteering experience the best it can be.
As a starting point Blind Sports NSW also works as a partner with Duke of Edinburgh awards to provide a program which both challenges and rewards the students who take part. If you or a friend are in school and want to volunteer as part of NSW Duke of Edinburgh or provide feedback to Blind Sports NSW, please email us by visiting the contact us page on our website.
School Sports Programs
In Term 3 & 4 of 2016 Blind Sports NSW are promoting a number of School Sport NSW Department of Education Multi Sport Days for students with disabilities. This will allow more students with a vision impairment to attend school sport days that focus on adaption in the main stream. Our hope is that the program days will flow into base participation and competition programs with all NSW State Sporting Organisations both in Sydney Metro & regional NSW.

Community Vision
This program was born of sport and the need for people with blindness and vision impairment who didn’t already play sport to become involved. These days were held regionally in 2015 at Wollongong, Orange & Newcastle in addition to a number of Sydney Metro days being held in Strathfield & Sydney Olympic Park. In 2016/17 this program will focus on social recreation and include social based activities including tandem cycling, walking, yoga, beach activities & camping activities. The next Community Vision day will be held on Saturday 3rd December 2016. New ideas for activities are welcome, please contact us with your ideas via clicking on the email icon in the top right corner of the screen.
